The Buzzards Bay NEP is conveniently located on Route 6 in Wareham, immediately off Exit 2 on Route 25, at the top of the Buzzards Bay watershed near where four major highways (Interstates 195 & 495, and State 28, and 6) come together.
From Providence: Take Rt. 195 East toward Massachusetts. In about 1 hour you come to the end of 195. Bear right onto Rt. 25 toward Cape Cod. In about 3 miles you will come to Exit 2 off Rt. 25.
From Boston: Take the Southeast Expressway (93 S) to 128 S (do not take the Rt. 3 split to Cape Cod). Follow Rt. 128 for about 10 minutes then take the Rt. 24 South exit. Follow Rt. 24 South for about 25 minutes then take Route 495 to Cape Cod (Exit 14). Stay on Route 495 for about 30 minutes until it turns into Route 25. Take Exit 2 for Onset/Wareham. [Warning: This exit was formerly called “Exit 1” and may still be listed as Exit 1 on internet maps.]
As you take Exit 2, the exit ramp will merge you onto a divided portion of the combined state highways, Rt. 6 East / Rt. 28 South. Continue on this road through 3 sets of lights then make you first left onto a small side street, then turn left again onto Rt. 28 North/ Rt. 6 West. If you miss this little road, take your next immediate left to again make the turnaround.
We are 150 feet on your right on the pond. If coming from Cape Cod, also take Exit 1 off Rt. 25. Your goal is to go “around the block” via two one-way streets. At the first light go straight; make a left at second light. At your first opportunity make another left. The Buzzards Bay NEP office is on your right in the small office building on the pond.
If after you get off Exit 2 and find see a big shopping plaza with a Stop & Shop and Wal-Mart on your right, YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR! Turn around and start heading the opposite direction, we are a quarter mile on the right.
From the Mid-Cape Highway (from the east): Go over the Sagamore Bridge, and take the almost immediate exit for the Village of Buzzards Bay. This exit will take you onto US-6 W/Scenic Highway for 3.6 Miles. You will continue on following the urban highway Rt. 6 as follows: At the next rotary, take the 2nd exit toward Rt. 6 Cranberry Highway / Wareham on the Buzzards Bay Village Bypass for 1.2 miles where you will enter a third (smaller) rotary. Take the 2nd exit and continue for another 4.2 miles past shopping plazas, etc. Just after the Wal-Mart Plaza, the road divides. Our office is on the pond just before the light. [Alternatively, just before entering the first Buzzards Bay rotary you can take the first exit for Rt. 25 and 495 West, and take the Onset/Wareham exit (Exit 2 on Route 25) as described below when traveling over the Bourne Bridge.]
From Bourne and Falmouth (from the east): Go over the Bourne Bridge, and stay on Rt. 25 for 5 miles and take Exit 2 (Onset Wareham, the first exit over the Bourne Bridge is Exit 2). Bear right at the exit ramp and continue to cross over Rt. 6 West at the first traffic light, then make a left on Rt. 6 East at the second traffic light. At your earliest opportunity make a left (you can take the second left if you miss the first left). We are 200 feet on the right on Rt. 6 going west. [Essentially, when you get off this Onset/Wareham exit, you are basically going immediately “around the block” using 1-way streets.]
